Ahead Of LS Polls, Mumbai Police Receives Threat Call For Bomb Blast At McDonald's Dadar

Ahead of the Lok Sabha polls in Mumbai scheduled on May 20, the police control room on Sunday received a bomb threat call. The caller informed the cops that there would be a blast in McDonald’s located in Dadar area of the city.

As per the Mumbai police, the caller said that he was travelling in a bus when he heard two people talking about blowing up McDonald’s.

After the call, the officials conducted an investigation but no suspicious object was found in the area, news agency ANI reported.

The cops are further probing the matter.

Meanwhile, the Mumbai police have inducted nearly 30,000 cops into service to ensure smooth voting during the Lok Sabha elections in the city, officials said on Saturday.

The six constituencies in Mumbai and seven others in Maharashtra will go to polls in the fifth phase of general elections on May 20.

According to a police official, 2,752 officers and 27,460 cops, including personnel from three units of the riot control police, will be on bandobast duty on election day in the metropolis, where polling will be held between 7 am and 6 pm.

The official said that five officers in the rank of Additional Commissioner of Police, 25 Deputy Commissioners of Police (DCP) and 77 Assistant Commissioners of Police (ACP) will be leading various teams during the bandobast.

About 5,000 policemen, 6,200 home guards and 36 units of Central Armed Police Force (CAPF) will also brought from outside for the voting day, he said.

This will be the fifth and last phase of general elections in the state. More than 2.46 crore persons are eligible to cast vote and decide the fate of 264 candidates in Mumbai North, Mumbai North Central, Mumbai North West, Mumbai North East, Mumbai South Central, Mumbai South, Thane, Kalyan, Bhiwandi, Palghar, Nashik, Dindori and Dhule seats.

The main contest is between the ruling Mahayuti comprising the Shiv Sena, BJP and NCP, and the opposition alliance of the Shiv Sena (UBT), Congress and NCP (SP). Mumbai, Thane and Palghar where 10 of these 13 seats are located form a major part of the Mumbai Metropolitan Region, one of the most urbanised pockets in the country.
