PUDUCHERRY: A successful candidate, whose selection to the India Reserve Battalion (IRBn) was grabbed by another person applying through fraudulent methods, finally got what he deserved. The offer of appointment as police constable in the IRBn was issued to successful candidate, P Saravanan, by chief minister N Rangasamy in the presence of inspector general of police J K Sharma and IRBn commandent Anto Alphonse.A massive recruitment process of selection of 675 constables was held during the initiation of the First India Reserve Battalion for Puducherry in 2005. G Saravanan (S/o Govindarajan) of Karaikal managed to enter the services of IRBn by applying through fraudulent methods of impersonation by misusing the name of another person, whose name incidentally was also Saravanan, (with initial P, S/o Panjanathan) who also belongs to Karaikal. G Saravanan neither appeared in any physical examination nor in any written test. The illegal and surreptitious act of G Saravanan was later exposed by the police department and an enquiry was conducted. G Saravanan was dismissed from service and appropriate criminal proceedings were initiated against him.Meanwhile, the successful candidate P Saravanan applied to the police department for considering his candidature for the post after knowing about the fraud. Accordingly, a proposal was moved to offer employment to the genuine candidate P Saravanan and the Government of Puducherry accorded approval.
