BANGALORE: Even as state information commissioner H N Krishna is trying to get an anticipatory bail in a case pertaining to the irregularities in the selection of officers to the Karnataka Administrative Services (KAS) by the Karnataka Public Service Commission (KPSC), RTI activists and NGOs are mounting pressure on him to step down taking moral ground.Ever since a FIR was registered against Krishna in the Vidhan Soudha police station on August 8, several RTI activists have approached the chief information commissioner A K M Nayak to act against his tainted subordinate. The pressure has only intensified following the resignation of Justice Shivaraj V Patil as the Lokayukta two-days ago, the sources in the information commission said.Krishna is facing charges of committing several irregularities including threatening certain candidates from appearing for the interview in order to help candidates of his choice during the appointment of gazetted probationers during 1998, 1999 and 2004 when he was the chairman of the KPSC. On his part, Krishna fearing arrest by the CID police, has gone on a long leave. Sources in the state information commission said that Krishna had taken leave from August 16 to october 22 and all cases assigned to him for hearing have been posted to November. The sources also maintain that Krishna’s return will depend on whether he would get the bail or not. Krishna after failing to get anticipatory bail in the High Court, is said to have decided to move the Supreme Court.Meanwhile, the CID police have intensified the investigation into the case. According to sources in the CID, the investigating officers have called for all documents pertaining to the appointment of KAS officers during the tenure of Krishna.“Right from the applications to answer-sheets of all candidates appeared for KAS exams during 1998, 1999 and 2004 have been sought from the KPSC. The details like caste certificates and reservation sought by various candidates have also been asked,” said an officer. The CID police who filed a FIR against Krishna, were rapped by the High Court for the slow development in the case. The High Court while expressing its displeasure over the slow progress had said it would hand over the case to the CBI if the CID police did not speed up the investigation.
