700 boxes of liquor worth lakhs seized from Yamuna Expressway

Seven-hundred boxes of liquor worth over Rs 21 lakh in market was seized on the Yamuna Expressway on Thursday, police said.

"On a tip-off, three members of the smuggling gang including the driver have been arrested and 700 boxes of wine were recovered from their canter," they said.

The Kanpur-bound vehicle was coming from Chandigarh when it was halted near Raya cut on Yamuna Expressway in the afternoon.

"The market value of the liquor is over Rs 21 lakh", District Excise Officer Pawan Kumar said.

The mastermind of the gang is based in Chandigarh and this lot has been dispatched from there, they said.

"Our job was to take liquor upto Ferozabad as from their other team would have moved for Kanpur", one of the accused said.
