BANGALORE: Sapna Book House held a release function for 55 books in Kannada as part of 55th Kannada Rajyotsava celebrations in Bangalore on Tuesday. The books are authored by various well-known writers and cover a variety of topics. Present at the function in Shikshakara Sadan to release the books were Sri Sri Ravishankar of the Art of Living Foundation, Sudha Murty and Captain G R Gopinath among other literary personalities like M S Narsimha Murthy and Belur Ramamurthy.
The function also felicitated 55 authors who were recognised for their contributions to Kannada literature. Speaking at the function, Sri Sri Ravishankar pointed out that he too was 55 years old before praising the beauty of Kannada literature. “It is a big loss to not know the language. The quality of Kannada literature is exemplary,” he said while requesting the publishers to consider translating the released books into other languages so that the knowledge could be spread.
“The amount of reading a person does today has decreased because of distractions like the television which lead to problems like Attention Deficit Syndrome and loss of recall capacity,” he rued while pointing out that reading and introspection are necessary in everyone’s life. While stressing the importance of getting the youth interested in Kannada literature, he asserted that people must develop a sense of pride towards their language.
Sapna Book House had an inaugural offer in which a complete set of all 55 books released were sold at a flat price of Rs 6,000. Nitin Shah, MD Sapna Book House reiterated his company’s commitment to supporting Kannada literature and promised more such releases in the future.
