The Titanic was on its maiden voyage from England to New York when it hit an iceberg and sank in the Atlantic Ocean.
The infamous sinking of the once 'unsinkable' ship, Royal Mail Ship (RMS) Titanic, completes 101 years on Monday. On April 15, 1912, the Titanic hit an iceberg in the Atlantic Ocean at 11.40 pm.
Less than three hours later, the entire ship had sunk. More than 1500 people lost their lives in the accident.
The ship was on its maiden voyage from England to New York.
