Make sure your iPhone is paired with your Apple Watch. If your iPhone and your Apple Watch aren't paired, you'll need to pair them before proceeding.
Check to see if your Apple Watch's activation lock is enabled. If you have Find My iPhone enabled on your iPhone and the iPhone is paired with your Apple Watch, the activation lock is enabled for your Apple Watch. You can check by doing the following: Open your iPhone's Watch app. Tap My Watch in the bottom-left corner. Tap your Apple Watch's name (you may have to scroll up). Tap ⓘ to the right of your Apple Watch's name. Look for a Find My Apple Watch option. If you see it, your Apple Watch's activation lock is turned on.
Open your iPhone's iPhone Settings App Icon Settings. Tap the Settings app, which resembles a grey box with gears on it.
Tap your iCloud name card. It's the box with your name on it at the top of the Settings page.
Tap iCloud. This option is in the middle of the screen.
Scroll down and tap Find My iPhone. It's near the bottom of the page.
Tap the white "Find My iPhone" switch iPhone Switch Off Icon. This option is at the top of the page. Doing so will enable Find My iPhone. You may be prompted to enter your Apple ID password here. If so, enter the password before proceeding.
Tap OK when prompted. This signifies that Find My iPhone—and, by extension, the attached activation lock—has been enabled for both your iPhone and your Apple Watch.
