Chelsea and Arsenal are now, reportedly, looking to hijack each other’s transfer targets. Chelsea seem to be lagging in the race to acquire Italian defender Riccardo Calafiori. As reported by TeamTalk, the Gunners have advanced in negotiations for Calafiori with their offer potentially rising to €50 million. The defender is also understood to have agreed to personal terms. This has now led the Blues to reportedly shift their focus on Jorrel Hato, an 18-year-old Ajax defender, who is also a top target of Arsenal
The advancement of Calafiori’s potential transfer to Arsenal showcases the conviction and intent of the Mikel Arteta-coached side. The transfer advancement has now forced Chelsea to reassess their defensive strategies under their coach Enzo Maresca. The new Chelsea boss has been tasked with securing a Champions League spot for the Blues. Maresca now faces a massive challenge as he might have to find a replacement for his primary target.
