It was a thrilling low-scoring T20 World Cup affair, which went right down to the wire on Sunday at the Nassau County in New York. And in the end, it was Team India who emerged victorious over their arch-rivals Pakistan. Chasing a meagre target of 120, the Babar Azam-led side fell short by six runs. Ace Indian pacer Jasprit Bumrah continued his sublime form and won the Player of the Match award (second time) for his stunning bowling. Bumrah picked up three wickets conceding just 14 runs in his three overs. Following the win against Pakistan, Bumrah reflected on the game in an interview with by his wife, anchor Sanjana Ganesan.
“It was a good day. The wicket did change after a while because the wicket that we played on last time had a lot more help. But in the morning, it was overcast and then later on the sun opened up and you know the wicket did dry up. So, it did get better to bat on. So, it was slightly better to bat on so the seam and the swing was less but yeah, we are very happy that we were able to pull that off with you know constant pressure, trying to be clear with what we want to do and try to make runs scoring difficult,” Jasprit Bumrah said while recalling his performance against Pakistan.
“So very happy that you know we were together and we were very clear, we never panicked at any stage. So that is a great sign for us going forward as well,” he added.

Jasprit Bumrah claimed his first wicket of the game having dismissed Pakistan captain Babar Azam for 13 in the fifth over. Wicketkeeper Mohammad Rizwan forged two solid partnerships with Babar and Usman Khan. Rizwan looked solid at one end, despite Pakistan losing wickets at regular intervals.
Jasprit Bumrah, eventually, bagged the crucial wicket of Rizwan in the 15th over. Talking about Mohammad Rizwan’s dismissal, Bumrah said, “So, at that time it is difficult what are the options. We have to asses the situation, what is the other batsman going to do as well. So, I was trying to back what is working for me because we played few games here. So, try to make runs scoring as difficult as possible, try to make them hit on the bigger side, try to you know be nice and calm. So, that was going on at that time and the execution was good. The ball did stay a little low. We were very happy that you know that changed the momentum and then the things were in our favour.”
Team India have secured a promising start to their T20 World Cup 2024 campaign having bagged two back-to-back wins. The Rohit Sharma-led side will next take on the co-hosts USA on Wednesday, June 12.
