In an official statement, the BCCI has confirmed that veteran spinner Ravichandran Ashwin will be rejoining the Indian team on Day 4 of the 3rd Test against England today.
Ashwin, who joined the 500-wickets club in Test cricket on Friday after taking the wicket of England opener Zak Crawley, immediately left Rajkot for his hometown Chennai to attend to a medical emergency in his family.
But, it seems as if the veteran spinner is all set to come back into the side and rejoin the squad during the fourth day of play.

Ashwin, had to temporarily withdraw from the squad after Day 2 of the 3rd Test in Rajkot to attend to a family emergency,” wrote the BCCI in an official statement.
“Both R Ashwin and the team management are pleased to confirm that he will be back in action on Day 4 and will continue to contribute towards the team cause in the ongoing Test match.
“The team management, players, media and fans have shown immense understanding and empathy, acknowledging the importance of family as a priority. The team and its supporters have stood united in support of Ashwin during this challenging period, and the management is delighted to welcome him back to the field.
“Ashwin and his family kindly request privacy as they navigate through these challenging times.”
As per the regulations, a player stepping off the field must wait for an equivalent period before resuming play. However, Ashwin’s case, deemed unique by the umpires, warranted a departure from the conventional.
