Indian spin magician Ravichandran Ashwin reflected on his family’s role in his cricketing journey as the spinner took part in his 100th Test match against England in Dharamshala.
In the latest interview, Ashwin talked about how much the game means to his family. “The entire family is built on cricket and to facilitate my career. It has not been easy. It has been very hard on them. It has been a big rollercoaster for them – going through the emotions and ups and downs that I myself do,” Ashwin told ESPN Cricinfo’s The Cricket Monthy Magazine.
Ravichandran Ashwin also talked about how his father has been a constant pillar of support in his career. He said, “I mean, I am in the second half of my thirties and my dad still watches a game like he would watch my first international game. Ashwin then went on to say how much the game meant to his close ones. “It means a lot to them. Compared to what it means to them, it means less to me…They have eliminated anything that comes in the way of my cricket. That has been the sole purpose of their lives ever since I can remember”.

In the same interview, Ravichandran Ashwin opened up about his mother’s hospitalisation during the ongoing England series. He talked about how he went straight to the hospital after leaving the third Rajkot Test. “When I landed and got to the hospital, my mom was slipping in and out of consciousness, and the first thing she asked me was, ‘Why did you come?’”, the cricketer said.
Ravichandran Ashwin later revealed that his mother felt that the cricketer should focus on his game and go back for the ongoing Test. “The next time she was conscious, she said, ‘I think you should go back because the Test match is happening’”, the spinner told the magazine.
