Ingredients

To make this chutney, we will need sesame oil, urad dal, chana dal, onions, garlic, red chillies, tomatoes, salt, tamarind, mustard, seeds, curry leaves and hing.

Recipe

To make this delicious Chutney follow the recipe below-

  1. In a pan, pour some sesame oil and then add urad dal and chana dal. Sauté till both start to turn golden.
  2. Add some sliced or chopped onions and saute till it turns golden. Then add garlic.
  3. The next step is to add dry red chillies. Saute them for half a minute or till the chillies change their colour.
  4. Now, you add tomatoes. Give it a good store and then add salt. Add a bit of tamarind and then sort the tomatoes on low heat till they soften.
  5. Let the mixture count and then grind it or blend it by adding a bit of water to make a smooth paste.
  6. In a pan, pour in some sesame oil and add some mustard seeds. Let it crackle.
  7. Add a few curry leaves and a pinch of hing. Saute till the leaves become crispy. Add this tempered mixture to the Kara Chutney and give it a good mix

You can serve it with dosa, vada, uttapam, or have it with roti as well.
