'No Power in My Locality for More Than 30 Hours': Ashwin Raises Concern as Cyclone Michaung Hits Chennai

Cyclonic storm Michaung has been wreaking havoc across Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh and Bhubaneshwar for over three days now, leaving the people in misery. One of them is veteran India all-rounder Ravichandran Ashwin who is suffering the consequences of this natural calamity.

Ashwin responded to a post on X which read about water logging across the capital city of Tamil Nadu and a power outage. The 37-year-old stated that there is no electricity in his locality, suspecting this might be the case in several other areas as well.

“No power in my locality for more than 30 hours too. Guess that’s the case in many places. Not Sure what options we have,” the cricketer posted on X.

Earlier on December 4, Ashwin asked the people of Chennai to hang tight. “Even if the rain stops, recovery is going to take a while,” his earlier post read.

Meanwhile, Australian opener David Warner took to Instagram to share his thoughts on the dire situation in Chennai and encouraged his followers to help out the affected in any way possible.

“I’m deeply concerned about the ongoing floods affecting many areas in Chennai. My thoughts are with all those who are impacted by this natural disaster. It’s important for everyone to stay safe, seek higher ground if necessary. If you’re in a position to help, please consider supporting relief efforts or offering assistance to those in need. Let’s come together to support where we can”, wrote Warner on his Instagram post.

At least 12 people lost their lives in various rain-related incidents in and around Chennai even as personnel on fishing boats and farm tractors were engaged in rescuing stranded people in the city on Tuesday. In Andhra Pradesh, the storm damaged 770-kilometre roads, uprooted 35 trees and killed three livestock, among others.

After being pounded by rains the whole of Monday, Chennai witnessed some respite on Tuesday even as the city struggled to cope with large-scale water logging, power cuts and disruption in mobile services.

Odisha’s southern districts too received rains on Tuesday in the wake of severe cyclone Michaung. Authorities have deployed five teams of ODRAF (Odisha Disaster Rapid Action Force) and eight teams from the fire service department for rescue operations in the five southern districts – Malkangiri, Koraput, Rayagada, Gajapati and Ganjam.
