So, we arrive at the final league match of what has been a stellar World Cup so far. It is the overwhelming favorites — the hosts — India, facing off against the Netherlands, who are in facing an all-or-nothing scenario today, at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru on the day of Diwali.
The final toss of the group stage took place. India won the toss and elected to bat first.

India have been dominant in this World Cup. All their eight wins have been emphatic – be it while batting first or second. They’ve played with the same XI in the last four matches and all their players are in good nick. It’ll be interesting to see if India will rest a few players ahead of their semi-final fixture against New Zealand on Wednesday.
For India, what is at stake here is them achieving their longest WC match-winning streak in their history. And more than anything else, this is the chance for talisman batter Virat Kohli to put up his record-breaking 50th ODI century, at the city he can call his second home.
Netherlands pocketed a couple of wins, including a famous win against the Proteas in Dharamsala. Scott Edwards, the Dutch captain, summed up his team’s campaign perfectly after his team’s loss at the hands of England – “We’ve been good in patches. Just got to do it for longer.”
What is at stake here for the Netherlands though is another shot at silverware in the future: a Champions Trophy spot. A win today for the Netherlands will allow them to push Bangladesh away from the eighth position on the table and secure themselves the final spot for the ICC Champions Trophy 2025.

Captain’s Comments:
Rohit Sharma (IND): We are gonna have a bat. No particular reason. Whether we have batted first or bowled first, we have done extremely well. Another opportunity to play well today and tick all the boxes. Extremely happy with how we have played in this tournament. Hats off to the guys who have stood up at different times and taken the responsibility. Same team.
Scott Edwards (NED): We would have batted as well. Looks like a pretty good wicket, but good ground for chasing. We have been pretty good overall, there’s games we’ve been blown out. We’ve had two wins. Looking to give a good performance today, give ourselves a chance. This is going to be the biggest crowd we’ve had for the tournament, looking forward to the atmosphere that’s going to be here. India have been flawless, we have to be at our best. A WC in India is as big as it gets. To win those games, it’s been big for us. Same side for us.
