The past couple of years has been those of disappointment and despair for once-India’s ace shuttler and Double Olympic medallist PV Sindhu. Persistent injuries leading to heartbreaking outings has been the tale. And, sadly the tale continues for Sindhu, who shared news of her latest injury on social media.
Sindhu took to X, formerly known as Twitter, where, in a heartfelt post, the shuttler shared the news of a new niggle that has been spotted in her left knee, thereby ruling her out of any recent competitions.
In the post, Sindhu wrote, “After returning from France and undergoing a knee scan, we’ve found a niggle in my left knee. In hindsight, conceding the match was the best call.”
Determined to come back firing on all cylinders ❤️Not the ideal update, but going to make this count

The match mentioned her refers to her recent French Open second round women’s singles match against Thailand’s Supanida Katethong on Thursday.

Sindhu had taken the lead over her opponent as she clinched the first game 21-18 and the second game was levelled at 1-1 scoreline before the Indian felt discomfort on her left knee at the Glaz Arena.
In the second game, Sindhu stretched herself far too much whilst attempting to return a shot from Katethong, resulting to the injury to her left knee.
Sindhu applied the magic spray and sought the tournament doctor’s help, but to no avail. After she received a yellow card for consulting with her coach Hafiz Hashim twice, Sindhu decided to concede the match to Katethong, who advanced to the quarterfinal.
The double Olympic medallist also shared that the best choice of action for her now would be to focus on recovery and pivot her attention to the upcoming 2024 Paris Olympics, where she will be looking to make a comeback to form.

“Doctors have advised a few weeks rest before I begin training again. The break is also an opportunity to focus on the upcoming Olympics.
“Thank you to everyone who continues to support me, your love is what makes the journey worth it.
“I shall be back on the court very soon,” concluded Sindhu.
It was only earlier this week when Sindhu had returned to the top 10 of BWF world rankings after nearly six months on the back of her four semifinal finishes.
