Canadian police investigate alleged murder of Indian-origin man by son in Ontario

A 56-year-old Indian-origin man was allegedly murdered by his son at their home in the Canadian province of Ontario, police said.

In a statement on Sunday, the Hamilton Police said that 22-year-old Sukhaj Singh Cheema was wanted for the first-degree murder of his father on Saturday night.

The Hamilton police said officers were called to a home at around 7:40 pm on Saturday and found Kuldip Singh with severe injuries. Singh was rushed to hospital but later died from his injuries, CTV News quoted the police as saying.

The suspect fled the scene in a compact, dark-coloured SUV after a confrontation with his father. The vehicle was last observed traveling north on Trafalgar toward Mud Street. Witnesses told officers that Cheema fled the residence after an altercation with the victim. He was believed to be in the area for about 30 minutes before the incident and fled in a vehicle.

The local cautioned that Cheema-Singh should be regarded as armed and dangerous, noting that the weapon employed in the assault remains unaccounted for. Investigators are appealing to witnesses or individuals possessing video footage of the vicinity to step forward and assist in their continuing inquiry. As the community eagerly awaits updates on the investigation, law enforcement officers persist in their efforts to apprehend the alleged perpetrator.
