While online food and grocery delivery apps have made our lives much easier, they come with their own set of drawbacks. One of the major setbacks would be that customers are often unable to voice their grievances related to a product or service on these apps. Recently, a Zepto customer faced a similar issue. The man claimed he discovered a worm crawling inside one of the oranges he bought from the grocery delivery app. Moreover, he claimed that he could not reach out to the service provider. Following his viral post, Zepto apologised to the individual and granted a refund.
Taking to X, the customer reported, “I ordered oranges from Zepto Now and found a live worm in one of the oranges I received.” He further added, “Unable to complain on Zepto… What kind of service are you providing; no help from the app.” He shared a picture and even a video in which one can see the worm moving.

In the same thread, the customer mentioned later that he received a call from the customer care department of Zepto. They apologised for the issue and initiated a refund for the same. He added that the officials assured, “such incidents would not recur in the future. He also mentioned that they would investigate the store’s safety measures to prevent similar issues from occurring.”
Zepto also apologised in his post as well.

Furthermore, the customer urged Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) to keep track of such issues and take action.

However, while the post surfaced on the internet, some users also reasoned that the grocery delivery app was not completely to blame. One user stated, “If fruit is in bad condition than company can be blamed. In case its ambience is good how selling company can ensure whether worm is there inside or not. Sometimes fresh fruits also contains. What if it was purchased from Mandi.’

This is not the first time such incidents have come to light. Recently, an online user shared about finding worms inside a packet of chocos, a breakfast cereal from the brand Kelloggs. A video shared on Instagram begins with the recorder holding a single granule of Kellogg’s Chocos, posing the amusing issue of whether the brand intended to deliver an additional dosage of protein. The granule shows an odd white substance that the user dismisses as cream. As the video progresses, the packet itself displays evidence of bacterial or worm activity at the bottom.
