There are many animals on the planet that hibernate across an entire season, in most cases winter. Bears, armadillos, turtles and lizards are among a few of them. Certain animals construct hibernaculum, or a den, especially for hibernation. These enclosed, well-insulated and secret shelters frequently have “just in case” food supplies. Some species occupy other animals’ dens or withdraw into isolated areas. These hibernaculum are generally well-hidden and inaccessible areas where human activity is the least. It is uncommon to stumble upon a den of an animal while they are hibernating. Still, a recently viral video shows a group of men across a bunch of hibernating animals together.
The video was posted on the X handle Alphafox 78 and depicts a group of men from an undisclosed location digging into the earth. They unearth what looks like a giant creature with their limbs moving as the dust falls upon them. There are no heads visible though. The video has left a lot of users puzzled as they were unable to identify what the animal is. Let us see if you can. Watch the video here:
Can you explain what this is? ???? pic.twitter.com/H7x2xbcl4i— AlphaFo???? (@Alphafox78) February 29, 2024
If you have yet to be able to deduce it yourself, it is not one single large animal as may seem at first glance. Instead, it is dozens of turtles piled on top of each other while they are hibernating. The shells enclosing their bodies are the only visible part of the turtles, making them look like one big organism. Some users have even joked that they collectively look like a giant pineapple.
The hearts of turtles beat very slowly when they hibernate. Generally, they hibernate inside the muddy floor of ponds but can also dig around the mud at the banks and burrow themselves in. Unlike other animals, their hibernation process is different as they stay conscious during the period, while their body processes slow down.
