The National Anthem holds great importance to the people of the country. Recently, a video of a Georgian choir singing India’s national anthem while on a flight from Delhi to Tbilisi was published online. Reportedly, the video was taken as the band returned home from the India-Georgia cultural festival in Bengaluru in January. In no time the video went viral and netizens were amazed to see the band’s mastery over the anthem sung in a foreign language.

The video begins with a scene of a crowded aeroplane. Within moments, a group begins singing Jana Gana Mana, and the others join in. A few people are also spotted filming the scene with their smartphones. The band, New Bana’s Choir shared the video on their official Instagram page with the caption, “National Anthem of Bharat #Indigo flight 6E1807. Delhi to Tbilisi. Our choir sang the National Anthem of India.”

Since being shared, the video has received several views and a slew of reactions in the comments section. While most people praised their performance, several urged that they stand the next time they sang Jana Gana Mana, noting the importance of respecting a country’s national anthem.

Some users stated, “It was an amazing rendition of the anthem, guys loved it,” while others pointed out, “Whoever is taking the bass. OH MY GOD!!”

Many people were emotional witnessing the foreign band performing the Indian National anthem. One user said, “I’m over here crying and I’m not even Indian! I Live here in India though,” while another expressed, “ Goosebumps…im literally crying…jaihind.”

An individual simply stated, “Thank you for making us proud.” A user also suggested, “Please stand up when you sing this anthem. It means a lot to the people of India. If you need to sing it again, please do it right.”

Last year, Ricky Kej, a three-time Grammy Award winner, released a new instrumental version of India’s national anthem on the eve of Independence Day.

The rendition was made in partnership with London’s Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, which consists of 100 members. The singer had stated, Jana Gana Mana’ was the first musical piece he had learned as a child. “It is very special and close to my heart. It’s been the most important piece of music in my life – the first piece of music I learned even before nursery rhymes or lullabies,” as quoted by NDTV. He recorded the version at London’s Abbey Road Studios.
