A rescue video of a cat trapped in the grill of a 20-storey building in Chennai has gone viral. The animal was rescued by Blue Cross of India, an animal NGO based in Tamil Nadu. Posting the video on Instagram, the NGO revealed that the cat was stuck between the grills for over 12 hours.
Residents of the building first spotted the cat and immediately informed the fire department and the NGO’s team. The team of Blue Cross of India rushed to the scene to assess the situation. The video of the dramatic rescue showed the NGO’s team members entering the building with their safety gear on. The rescue team used suspension ropes to rescue the cat
The NGO, in their post, said, “Accessing the grills was only possible through the building’s terrace. We sent the ropes down to reach the rescue spot. It was a very confined area and it was challenging to reach the point.”
One of the team members then managed to jump into the space between the wall and the grill. He eventually went near the cat and slowly helped it come out. He then placed the cat in a net bag, as others checked the animal for any injury. The man, who rescued the cat, was later seen cuddling it. “The daring operation was a success and the cat is safe back in its territory,” read the caption posted with the clip.
The NGO team mentioned that the cat was sedated before the rescue. This ensured that the operation was completed swiftly and the rescuer was unharmed.
The rescue operation team earned a lot of praise from netizens. One user wrote, “This was such a tough rescue. Imagine the height and that dingy place she was stuck in. Thank you so much, the brave man who went down to get the cat,” while another said, “This video gives me the hope that good human beings still exist. God Bless them.”
