Legendary singer Usha Uthup, best known for her distinctive deep voice, wowed diners at an iconic Kolkata restaurant with her rendition of Flowers, Miley Cyrus’ Grammy Award-winning song. A video of Usha Uthup performing in a Kolkata restaurant has gone viral.
Trincas, where Usha Uthup has been performing since the late 1960s, hosted her most recent performance on February 8, during which she sang the latest hit, among other songs. Even after becoming a well-known playback singer, she continues to perform at the restaurant.
“She wears flowers in her hair and sings flowers by Miley Cyrus. Never thought I’d get to witness this. And yes this is an Usha Uthup fan page now! Deal with it,” wrote Meghdut Roy Chowdhury who posted the video on Instagram. Many people were captivated by Usha Uthup’s version of Miley Cyrus Flowers in the viral video.

Uthup was dressed in her signature ensemble, a resplendent saree accented with jasmine flowers in her hair, which has defined her public persona for decades. She also sang British singer Adele’s song – Skyfall, among others. “Do you see that photograph? It’s me,” she is seen telling the audience after pointing at a photo on the wall, shortly before stunning the crowd with her rendition of Skyfall, which she terms – Skyfall in a saree.

In the comments section, fans poured out their love for the veteran singer. While some called for Usha and Miley to collaborate, others wanted the playback singer to win a Grammy. “This woman also deserves a Grammy! Such a versatile artist! My god! (sic)” a fan wrote. While another commented, “Miley Cyrus, it’s time for you to take a tour and collaborate with Usha Uthup (sic).” A user expressed similar sentiments stating, “Our one and only pop queen (sic).”

Usha Uthup began her career singing in nightclubs before venturing into film. Throughout her five-decade career, she has sung in films in Hindi, Malayalam, Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, and other languages. She has also judged several reality shows on television. According to reports, Usha Uthup and her second husband, Jani Chacko Uthup, met at Trincas in Kolkata.
Usha Uthup was awarded the Padma Bhushan on the eve of the 75th Republic Day which is January 25. She received the honour for her contributions to the field of music.
