A thrilling video of TV personality Robert Alleva, co-host of Kings of Pain, interacting with massive, 123-year-old Nile crocodile Henry has gained huge attention online, drawing in a staggering 4 million views. Alleva shared the clip shot at the Crocworld Conservation Centre in South Africa on his Instagram. The footage shows Alleva interacting with Henry closely. As Alleva approached the massive crocodile from behind, Henry suddenly let out a roar and opened his mouth wide. Throughout the video, Alleva remained positioned behind the open-mouthed crocodile, and said, “This is cool. I haven’t felt scared of anything in a long time. So, right now, this is amazing.”
In his Instagram caption, Alleva shared that he admired the crocodile ever since British naturalist Steve Backshall interacted with Henry. The caption further reveals that Henry, reportedly born in 1900, is believed to be the oldest crocodile alive.
“Ever since I saw Steve Backshall with Henry, I’ve wanted to meet this Nile croc. Well….be careful what you wish for!! I was as intimidated, as I was fascinated!! Henry is reported to be the oldest known croc in the world, born in 1900. That’s right he’s soon to have his 124th birthday Big thanks to Crocworld Conservation Centre for letting me get hands on this breathtaking reptile! I will have to come back to visit, and if you’re in South Africa a visit to CrocWorld is a must!” Alleva wrote in the caption.
The video has gained thousands of reactions on social media, where many are admiring his bravery while others are also raising concerns about being at such close distance with a dangerous reptile. Many comments also highlight its striking similarity with a dinosaur. Here’s what people are saying:
One user remarked, “Oldest croc in captivity. Who knows what’s out there”, while another enthusiastically stated, “This is the coolest thing ever!”
Someone else shared, “These animals are magnificent, a true marvel of nature. To think they survived the ice age as well, incredible!. Protect these creatures at all costs, not to be made into bags or shoes!. Give them the respect they deserve.”
A commenter quipped, “He almost made you his birthday meal”
Another said, “Damn, I saw your life flash before my eyes…”
The crocodile’s resemblance to a dinosaur didn’t go unnoticed. One user commented, “That thing is a straight-up dinosaur,” and another added, “Dinosaurs are truly still here.”
Another individual joked, “Well now we know what dinosaurs would sound like.”
Steve Backshall also joined in to praise Alleva, writing, “Strong strong work Rob! What a croc that Henry is!!!”
