Mumbai Man's Post on Women Entering Building at 2:30 AM to 'Disturb' Residents Goes Viral, Deleted Later
Mumbai man shares CCTV footages of how two young women, with an intention of being cool, entered their building to disturb residents by ringing bells at 2:30 a.m.

Children playing mischievous pranks, such as ringing doorbells and running away, are a common sight in residential societies. However, the scenario took an unusual turn when two young women entered a building in Mumbai around 2:30 a.m. with the sole purpose of ‘disturbing’ residents. Shresht Poddar, a resident, took to social media, sharing CCTV footage and detailing how these women frightened mostly senior residents by latching their doors from the outside before ringing their bells needlessly.

In a series of videos, Poddar narrated the unsettling experience, highlighting the fear caused by the disturbance, especially for the mostly senior residents. The building had a history of security concerns, with attempted robberies, electrical fires, and even murders in the vicinity over the past few years.

Describing the incident, Poddar explained, “Loud disturbance at night disturbs & scares us. We used to have a security guard. Last night at 2.30 am, multiple door bells freaked my mum and me out. CCTV had a memory issue so it was ‘offline’. No one could be seen from the windows.”

After fixing the CCTV in the morning, Poddar discovered footage of two seemingly drunk girls spotting the camera. They proceeded to go upstairs, check nameplates, attempt to latch doors from outside, and continuously ring doorbells. Expressing his frustration, Poddar noted that he might have overlooked such behaviour if it were children, but the fact that these ‘adults’ acknowledged the CCTV cameras and persisted in their actions irked him.

Seeking suggestions, he asked the internet for ideas on how to deal with the situation.

The internet responded with various suggestions, with one empathising, “Some of these pranks can be nightmare for others, I hope the police has been informed and the necessary action is taken.” Another said “I thik (think) You can file a complaint of nuisance and trespassing or harrasment of senior citizens.”

However, Poddar later shared an update, writing, “The girls have been identified offline and reprimanded. There was never an intention to punish them in some of the ways suggested by a lot of people here. The residents have decided not to file a police complaint.”

He also deleted the post carrying videos of the two women, with the consensus of the residents after the two apologised. “The girls came and apologised to the senior citizens of the building. With the consensus of the residents, we are removing the visuals and the thread. Thank you for the support extended by so many of you,” Poddar added.

Since being shared, the post, that has now been taken down, had garnered over 297K views on the site (as of the time of publishing the article).
