Windows 10 includes the middle finger emoji, becomes first platform to let users flip the bird

New Delhi: Windows 10 is bringing a lot of eyebrow raising changes. After killing the Internet Explorer and the Media Centre, Microsoft is being courageous enough to bring onboard a middle finger emoji, and that’s not all.

Emojipedia noticed this symbol, one of the Unicode 7.0 emojis and named quite articulately, ‘Reversed hand with middle finger extended’- that simply means 'the finger.'

A report on Ars Technica notes that getting the flip the bird emoji with the upcoming software isn’t the only news, the real catch is that it will be racially diverse too and can be shown with a variety of skin tones.

Even as a lot of people, including school kids, teenagers, and adults, have repeatedly asked for this emoji, iOS, OS X and Android have been cautious not to include the controversial symbol.

Over the past few years, emojis have become a part of universal visual language and after crackdown on offensive written or visual words, social media has started omitting offensive emojis. Recently, Instagram banned the use of the eggplant or aubergine emoji after users posted it to represent a penis.

Whether Microsoft’s daring new addition will turn on the social media policing or users will be more than happy to have the virtual gesture to represent anger, we will be able to know once the Windows 10 OS is launched in summer.

What's your reaction?
