New Delhi: Music streaming service Rhapsody has brought in a new feature for its users that allows them to share songs with their followers on Twitter, even if they are not Rhapsody subscribers.
The full-track playback feature will let Rhapsody subscribers, who pay $9.99/month for the service, share songs from its 34-million track catalogue with their Twitter followers via Audio Cards without switching platforms to listen to the songs.
A report on GeekWire stated that all the songs are licensed by Rhapsody, with a cut going to artists, labels and publishers. However, the feature will be only available in the US. Rhapsody and Twitter are launching the new initiative at South by Southwest in Austin, Texas, appealing to crowds of tech-savvy music fans.
The company is testing the feature to see if it can recoup the licensing fees, over time, by converting the Twitter exposure into new subscribers.
With Soundcloud as its flagship partner, Twitter had integrated the Audio Cards feature to its service last year. It focuses on podcasts and limited music sharing by artists.
