New Delhi: Microsoft is soon to roll out its latest Windows 10 operating system. Along with many improvements, the OS will also support biometric authentication, which means you will be able to unlock your Windows device with your finger, iris, or face.
Dubbed Windows Hello, the feature will be functional in a PC, tablet, or a smartphone. However, the feature requires specialized hardware like a fingerprint reader, illuminated IR sensor, or such biometric sensors to work.
Windows Hello will make use of hardware such as Intel's RealSense 3D cameras and software to accurately verify identity and the infrared technology will ensure that the user can be recognised in a variety of lighting conditions.
A report on VentureBeat stated that another programming system, codenamed Microsoft Passport, will take the biometric authentication feature further by allowing you to access apps and online services without a password. If Windows Hello is not supported by the user's hardware, Passport will fall back to asking for a PIN or password.
The biometric signatures will be locally saved on the device to be used for just unlocking your Windows 10 devices and using Passport. The feature will be opt-in, which means it is completely optional and not mandatory. Those who like to use their devices the good old way can still choose not to use their biometric information to unlock devices.
