New Delhi: Charging the UPA government with involvement in the various "scams" that have hit the headlines, senior BJP leader LK Advani on Monday said people now want the government to be held accountable for its actions.
"When the year 2010 had ended, I had lamented that the year would go down in the Indian history as a year of scams.
It is the desire of the country to let 2011 end up as a year of accountability," Advani told reporters in New Delhi after hoisting the national flag at his residence.
"If last year was the year of scams, then at the end of this year, people should have the satisfaction that answerability was sought for last year," he said.
The BJP Parliamentary Party Chairman did not name the UPA while referring to scams and refused to take questions on the Prime Minister's speech at Red Fort.
BJP President Nitin Gadkari was present when Advani unfurled the national flag and took salute from the CRPF guards posted at his official residence.
