Third Front not now: Jayalalithaa
The AIADMK chief says 'situation' in country doesn't favour formation of a new political alliance.

New Delhi: AIADMK chief Jayalalithaa on Wednesday said the “situation” in the country didn’t favour the formation of third political front to challenge the Congress and the BJP.

"Political parties, barring the Congress and the BJP, should shed their differences and join together to form a third front. However such a situation has not emerged yet," she said in Chennai.

Jayalalithaa has discussed forming a “Third Front” with Samajwadi Party leader Mulayam Singh Yadav and TDP president N Chandrababu Naidu.

She said the UPA government at the Centre was "losing the confidence of the people day by day" on issues like the nuclear deal with the US and increasing terrorist attacks in several parts of the country.

Coming down on the DMK government's freebies, she said Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M Karunanidhi was making a mockery of governance by launching such schemes that are "only leading the state towards bankruptcy".

Jayalalithaa alleged Karunanidhi had hurt sentiments of Hindus with his statements on "nude idols" of deities in temples.
