New Delhi: It’s a decisive day for BJP in south India, a day when it could be assured its first Chief Minister south of the Vindhyas.
The politicking over the change of guard in Karnataka continues and Governor Rameshwar Thakur seems eager to balance all claims before he reaches a decision.
The BJP and the JD(S) have called a joint meeting in the afternoon and are to parade their legislators before the Governor.
These MLAs were taken to a resort on the outskirts of Bangalore last night and are now back in the city. But the Raj Bhawan has postponed the appointment from 1000 hrs (IS) to 1300 hrs and now to 1700 hrs.
Both party MLAs will meet at this afternoon to confirm numbers, perhaps figure out some last minute strategy.
Meanwhile, rebel JD(S) leader M P Prakash has refused to budge and has decided to stay away from any coalition with the BJP.
Continuing his defiant posture, Prakash, who was Home Minister in the H D Kumaraswamy government, told reporters that his group would communicate to the Governor Rameshwar Thakur its views on the ongoing government formation exercise.
Prakash, who hails from dominant Lingayat community, has raised a banner of revolt against the party's decision to join forces again with the BJP to prop up a coalition government.
He declined to talk about the number of MLAs supporting him. It is no secret that Prakash, a senior politician, enjoys the support of a section of party MLAs.
After his meeting with MLAs, Prakash said he has the necessary numbers and is expected to meet Thakur at 1400 hrs (IST).
Prakash has Congress backing and claims that he enjoys the support of a majority of the 57 JD(S) legislators. He's holding a meeting currently at former minister Mahadev Prasad's house.
The angry Kumaraswamy faction of the JD(S) is now rushing to the Raj Bhawan, protesting the Governor's decision to invite Prakash first. Kumaraswamy claims the support of 40 JD(S) MLAs.
