New Delhi: Home Minister Rajnath Singh on Thursday cancelled his two-day visit to Jammu and Kashmir in wake of flood situation. Singh was scheduled to visit the state on Friday to take stock of the security situation at the border at a meeting of the Uniform Command Headquarters and visit forward areas.
The Home Ministry said in a tweet, "Due to incessant rains in certain parts of Jammu and Kashmir and emergence of a flood like situation the Home Minister has decided to cancel his visit to the state."
Singh had a telephonic conversation with Chief Minister Omar Abdullah who apprised him of the flood situation in the state.
This was Singh's first visit to Jammu and Kashmir after taking over as Union Home Minister.
Singh was scheduled to hold talks with state officials and review the prospect of return and rehabilitation of displaced Kashmiri Pandits.
