New Delhi: After Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, now Congress Vice President Rahul Gandhi will spell out the government's reforms roadmap in his first interaction with business leaders at the annual general meeting of industry body Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) on Thursday. This is being seen as a move to counter Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi as Rahul Gandhi has been trying to woo the business community as well.
Rahul is expected to focus on the need for economic growth combined with social responsibility. He may speak on the China model or on other countries that are developing at a faster pace. He is also likely to raise UPA's ambitious direct transfer benefit scheme. The Congress Vice President is expected to reassure corporate leaders that his party and the government are committed to ensuring a corporate friendly regime.
Rahul is scheduled to address the meeting of CII on Wednesday morning. While Rahul had engaged with the industry body earlier, this will be his first address at a CII national conference after becoming the Vice President of the party on January 19.
In October 2012, Rahul had taken some top corporate leaders to Jammu and Kashmir to address the problem of unemployment being faced by the youth of the troubled state.
Earlier, Rahul had taken Microsoft chief Bill Gates to his parliamentary constituency Amethi in 2010. In 2008, he visited Japan along with party leader Sachin Pilot and CM Omar Abdullah as part of a CII delegation.
