Chandigarh: Punjab's ruling party Shiromani Akali Dal is holding a sit-in protest against drug trade in the state.
SAD is holding the sit-in near the international borders making a pitch for greater vigilance along the border with Pakistan to stop flow of drugs. SAD has blamed the Border Security Force (BSF) for not monitoring the border areas adequately.
The Punjab government is under scanner after the Enforcement Directorate (ED) questioned state Revenue Minister Bikram Majithia in a drug racket.
"Not a single gram of drugs is produced in Punjab. It comes from Pakistan and Afghanistan. BSF is supposed to be safeguarding the borders. If they did a better job all this would not happen," Sukhbir Singh Badal had said.
The drug charges have strained relationship between the Akali Dal and its alliance partner BJP in Punjab. For now the politics over drugs shows no signs of dying down in Punjab.
