People's Democratic Party is boycotting the all-party meeting called by Jammu and Kashmir CM Omar Abdullah.

Srinagar: People's Democratic Party (PDP) is boycotting the all-party meeting called by Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Monday at 3:00 PM to discuss the ongoing unrest and violence in the Valley in which many youngsters have been killed in firing by security forces.

PDP leader Mehbooba Mufti has refused to budge from her decision despite a letter from the Chief Minister and a call from Prime Minister Manmohan Singh requesting her to attend the meeting. Instead she has asked the Prime Minister to intervene directly, saying Omar no longer enjoys people's support in the state.

Local newspapers finally hit the stands on Monday following four days of restrictions on movement of mediapersons.

Meanwhile, in preparation for the all-party meet Nationalist Congress Party-Congress MLAs have express their faith in the Omar Abdullah government.

Curfew was lifted on Sunday in the Kashmir Valley, nearly a week after it was struck by fresh violence, as the situation remained generally peaceful but prohibitory orders have been clamped in Baramulla, Anantnag and Pulwama districts besides some parts of Srinagar.

The situation was generally peaceful barring a few incidents where small groups of people came out and shouted slogans and threw stones at the security forces, police said.

"Curfew has been lifted from the Valley. However, there are prohibitory orders in some parts of the city as well as in some other districts," Inspector General Kashmir Region, Farooq Ahmad said.

The authorities relaxed curfew in Sopore in North Kashmir from 7 AM to 11 AM and later extended the relaxation period indefinitely as there was no untoward incident. Shops opened there despite a strike call given by hardline Hurriyat Conference led by Syed Ali Shah Geelani.

Orders banning assembly of people have been enforced in Pulwama, Anantnag and Baramulla districts. Besides, downtown areas of Srinagar, Maisuma, Batamaloo and Nowhatta too are under such restrictions.
