Mumbai: In a move that could spell trouble for the Shiv Sena, the Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) is reportedly considering a tie up with the BJP to rule the Nashik municipal corporation.

MNS chief Raj Thackeray on Sunday expressed confidence that his party would be able to install its mayor in the Nashik Municipal Corporation (NMC) for the next five years.

The MNS got 40 seats in the 122-member house, while the Congress-NCP grabbed 35 and the Shiv Sena-led combine managed to come third with 33 seats, with the remaining 14 going to independents and others.

The MNS would require the support of at least another 22 corporators in the 122-member house to achieve a simple majority.

Talks are on between the BJP and the MNS and a decision on the tie-up is expected before March 15. Nashik was the only civic poll that Shiv Sena and BJP fought separately.

This development could cause tension between the two long time allies in other cities as well.
