Kolkata: The ruling Left Front Chairman, Biman Bose on Sautrday said that elections to 38 seats in the fifth phase assembly elections in West Bengal was peaceful except some stray incidents.
"We had apprehended trouble in some areas. But apart from some stray incidents, elections were peaceful," Bose told news persons here.
"A woman fired some shots from a moving car in front of a polling booth at Vivekananda Vidyalaya in Debra seat in West Midnapore district raised suspicion of a move to create disturbance. But neither the woman nor the car could be traced," Bose said.
Referring to reports in certain sections that unusual high polling percentage has been recorded in this phase; he said that 81 per cent polling in the four districts was identical to the poll percentage in 2006 elections in these areas.
With the completion of the fifth phase, elections to 280 out of the total 294 seats were completed. The sixth phase poll will be held in Maoist-affected Jangalmahal area accounting for 14 seats on May 10.
