Bangalore: Karnataka Chief Minister D V Sadananda Gowda on Saturday called on Governor H R Bhardwaj but said he did not discuss the issue of appointment of new Lokayukta.
Gowda told reporters that he informed the Governor about his inability to attend the swearing-in of Justice Vikramajit Se, as the new Chief Justice of the High Court on Saturday due to pre-occupation.
He said he did not discuss with Bhardwaj the issue of appointment of new Lokayukta, over which the government and the Governor locked horns or the ministry expansion.
While the Government insists that former Kerala High Court Chief Justice S R Bannurmath be appointed as Lokayukta, the Governor has refused to accept the recommendation in the wake of certain allegations surfacing against the former judge.
When asked about the statement by his predecessor B S Yeddyurappa that he did not favour "collective leadership" to fight the upcoming assembly elections, Gowda said, "The party will decide on such issues".
"I will discharge my duties as chief minister which has been entrusted to me by the party," Gowda, who met Bhardwaj two days after he was elected to the Legislative Council, said.
State unit BJP president K S Eshwarappa told reporters in Shimoga that the party would take a call on whether to adopt the policy of "collective leadership" or not in the next elections.
He said the BJP would organise a Backward Classes convention to protest Centre's decision to provide reservation to minorities within the 27 per cent OBC quota.
