Kamal Nath to Join BJP in 48 Hours, Say Sources; Son Nakul Drops Cong from Bio
Congress MP Nakul Kamal Nath dropped the party name from his social media bio

A day after Madhya Pradesh BJP chief VD Sharma claimed that there were some Congress leaders upset with the party’s leadership, Congress leader Nakul Kamal Nath dropped a major hint of a possible political switch after he removed the party name and symbol from his social media bio.

Nakul Nath’s move sparked rumours that his father and former Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Kamal Nath could also join the BJP.

Meanwhile, BJP’s top sources told News18 that Kamal Nath is likely to join the saffron party in the next 48 hours, in what could turn out to be a major blow to Congress ahead of the 2024 Lok Sabha Elections.

On speculations about Kamal Nath joining the BJP, the Congress veteran, one of the few remaining leaders of the Indira Gandhi era, said he “will soon inform.”

According to a The New Indian Express report, the former Madhya Pradesh chief minister and his son Nakul Nath might join the saffron camp before Rahul Gandhi’s ‘Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra’ enters the BJP-ruled state.

Kamal Nath is reportedly upset as he was not consulted by the party leadership before the Congress nominated Gwalior-Chambal politician Ashok Singh for the Rajya Sabha elections.

On being asked about the latest developments, Congress leader Digvijaya Singh said that he is confident Kamal Nath would never leave the party.

“I had a conversation with Kamal Nath ji last night. He is in Chhindwara. He is the person who started his political career with the Nehru-Gandhi family. You cannot expect that person to leave Sonia Gandhi and Indira Gandhi’s families,” Singh said.

Calling Kamal Nath “Indira Gandhi’s third child”, Congress leader Jitu Patwari said that Nath can never betray Gandhi family and will remain in the party.

VD Sharma earlier said that many senior Congress leaders are upset with their party leadership after the grand old party turned down the invitation to Ram Temple’s ‘Pran Pratishta’ ceremony.

He further added that the BJP will accept any Congress leader who wishes to join them with open arms, whether it is Kamal Nath or his son. However, the Congress has denied the rumours about any political switch for now.

In a major blow to the Congress in Madhya Pradesh, several leaders, including former MLA Dinesh Ahirwar and Congress District President from Vidisha Rakesh Katare joined the BJP on February 12.
