Hathras Stampede Triggers Political Row, Akhilesh Questions Govt, Yogi Assures Action | Details
According to officials, a team comprising the Agra additional director general of police and the divisional commissioner of Aligarh will probe the Hathras incident

At least 116 people were killed on Tuesday in a stampede that broke out at a religious event in Uttar Pradesh’s Hathras. The tragic incident took place at a ‘satsang’ event in Pulrai village where people had gathered in large numbers.

All the victims were immediately brought to the Sikandara Rao Trauma Centre in trucks and other vehicles. The bodies were laid outside the health centre as people milled around them.

Soon after the mishap, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath spoke to the concerned officials and announced that all possible help would be provided to the victims. He also announced compensation for those involved in the accident.

The chief minister also said that he will visit Hathras on Wednesday to take stock of the situation and is likely to meet the injured as well.

Amit Shah Speaks to CM Yogi Adityanath

Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Tuesday spoke to Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath and assured him of all possible Central help to deal with the situation arising after a stampede at Hathras.

The chief minister also apprised Shah about the tragic incident which claimed more than 100 lives.

Earlier, the home minister expressed his grief over the stampede at a religious congregation at Hathras and offered condolences to the families of those who lost their lives.

UP CM Orders Strict Probe, Panel Formed

An FIR will be registered against the organisers of the event, a state government statement said.

According to officials, a team comprising the Agra additional director general of police and the divisional commissioner of Aligarh will probe the incident.

The statement also said the chief minister is holding a meeting with senior officials at his residence.

Adityanath is in constant touch with three ministers, the chief secretary and the DGP, and sent them to the spot, it said.

Govt Announces Compensation For Victims

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath announced a compensation of Rs 2 lakh ex gratia for the families of the dead and Rs 50,000 each for the injured.

Similarly, Prime Minister Modi also announced an ex-gratia amount of Rs 2 lakh from PMNRF for the next of kin of each deceased in the mishap in Hathras. The injured would be given Rs. 50,000.

Political Leaders React To The Tragedy

President Droupadi Murmu expressed condolences over the tragedy. Prime Minister Narendra Modi during his Lok Sabha speech on Tuesday expressed grief over the loss of lives in the Hathras stampede tragedy and paid his condolences to the families of the victims.

UP Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath also expressed shock over the incident and instructed officials to reach the accident site and carry out relief measures. Union Minister Amit Shah and Rajnath Singh also condoled the demise of over 100 people in the mishap and directed the state government to provide all possible help to the victims.

Akhilesh Raises Question on Govt; Mayawati, Rahul Condole Death of Victims

Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav raised questions about the Uttar Pradesh government’s preparedness for the religious congregation in Hathras and said they must provide immediate assistance to the victims.

“There is a need to assess the human errors that occur in such events and also learn lessons for the future. A thorough investigation and action taken based on it can prevent the recurrence of such accidents in the future,” wrote Yadav on X.

Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) chief Mayawati said, “It is very sad that a large number of people died and many were injured in a stampede during a religious gathering in Hathras district of UP and a young man was killed during a Buddhist/Bhim Katha in Agra.”

Urging the state government to provide all possible assistance to the victims and their families, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi said, “The news of the death of many devotees due to the stampede during the Satsang in Hathras, Uttar Pradesh is extremely painful. I express my deepest condolences to all the bereaved families and hope for the speedy recovery of the injured.
