Mumbai: The Maharashtra government is seeking legal opinion on action against Shiv Sena mouthpiece Saamna.
Maharashtra Home Minister RR Patil told CNN-IBN that the legal department has been asked to give its opinion on what action can be taken against Saamna.
Patil added that the department had been given a fortnight to give its response on the issue.
The action is likely to be taken under Section 153 of the Indian Penal Code which acts against those promoting communal disharmony and enmity.
Maharashtra Chief Minister Ashok Chavan said that action would be taken against Shiv Sena mouthpiece and its leaders,
"Maharashtra government is watching content in Saamna and Sanjay Raut's (Saamna Editor) statements closely. We will take strict action on them if they continue to cross the limits," said Chavan.
Raut said that no attempts to censor will break the spirit of the party.
"We are used to such censorship attempts since the time of Bal Gangadhar Tilak. We will not bow down," said Raut.
