Gautam Deb to campaign for CPM in north Bengal
Bhattacharya, who is contesting from Siliguri for the 5th consecutive term, said Deb will begin campaign very soon.

Siliguri: With West Bengal Chief Minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee campaigning for CPM in his Jadavpur Assembly seat and in southern parts of the state, Public Health Engineering Minister Gautam Deb will campaign for the party in north Bengal.

CPM heavyweight and Minister Asoke Bhattacharya, who is contesting from Siliguri seat for the fifth consecutive term, said Deb will begin campaign very soon.

When asked if Deb was the first choice for the party as a better crowd puller than the Chief Minister, Bhattacharya said, "This perception is absolutely wrong. Buddha-da remains the main focus and is leading the entire poll campaign in Bengal. But since he is so preoccupied in south Bengal, he can't spare much for the north."

Dev had recently been fielded by the party at several meetings to counter the charges by Trinamool and held a press meet at the CPM state headquarters yesterday to rebut the views of Trinamool supremo Mamata Banerjee.

Claiming that the Left Front will fare better this time in the region, Bhattacharya said this was another reason for not asking the chief minister to campaign in north Bengal.
