Ghaziabad: Gujarat Chief Minister and Bharatiya Janata Party Prime Ministerial candidate Narendra Modi took on the Congress on the issue of secularism. Addressing a rally in Ghaziabad on Thursday, Modi accused Congress President Sonia Gandhi of adding a communal colour to the 2014 Lok Sabha elections and playing divide and rule.
A day after Sonia met Shahi Imam Bukhari, Modi said, "This UPA government is indulging in vote bank politics. They want to add a communal colour to this election."
He added that the Congress is playing the secularism card as it could not look for any other issue. "They don't have any answer on corruption, employment and other issue. That's why they always talk about secularism. Congress is defeated. So now from 'secularism' they have moved to open communalism," Modi said.
Modi also appealed to the Election Commission to take note of Sonia's meeting with Shahi Imam, saying, "Seeking votes on the basis of religion is against the laws of this nation."
"For Congress, secularism is an election slogan. For us, it is 'every one is ours'," he added.
