Puducherry: Talks between ruling Congress and ally DMK on seat-sharing for the April 13 Assembly polls did not make any headway and the parties will meet again on Tuesday for further discussions, Congress sources said.
The discussions held here on Sunday did not bear fruit and both parties would meet again here on Tuesday for further discussions, they said.
The sources said Union Minister of State for Parliamentary Affairs V Narayanasamy, who was part of the Congress committee which held discussions, had left for Delhi to apprise the high command of what transpired.
Though top leaders of the two parties have held two rounds of meetings since Saturday to arrive at a consensus on the number of seats their parties should get, the talks proved infructuous.
Once the number is decided, these parties would then go in for identification of segments in the next phase.
Congress contested 16 seats in the 2006 Assembly polls and DMK 11 seats.
Congress bagged 10 of the 16 seats it contested in the last polls. Its strength in the 30-member Assembly increased to 13 in 2009 when the three member Puducherry Munnetra Congress (a splinter group of Congress then) merged with Congress a few months after the Lok Sabha poll.
However, the strength came down to 11 after former Chief Minister N Rangasamy and close confidante P Angalane quit Congress and also the MLA posts on January 20 this year.
Rangasamy then floated his outfit All India NR Congress (AINRC) marking the split in the party.
He also met AIADMK leader Jayalalithaa at Chennai on March 12.
