Ahmedabad: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Monday moved an application before the Special CBI Court to question former Gujarat minister of state for home Amit Shah inside Sabarmati Jail in connection with Sohrabuddin Sheikh encounter case.
The application was moved after CBI officials questioned former director general of Gujarat Police GC Raigar. Raigar was issued a notice by the CBI on Monday morning and then questioned in the fake encounter case of Sohrabuddin, his wife Kausar Bi and Tulsi Prajapati.
Shah was arrested by the CBI on Sunday and sent to 14-day judicial custody in connection with the 2005 staged killing of Sohrabuddin Sheikh.
Before surrendering before the CBI, Shah addressed a press conference claiming that Rajasthan resident Sohrabuddin was a Lashkar-e-Toiba terrorist and added that the Gujarat Police seized 46 AK-47s, 100 grenades and 100,000 rounds of ammunition from a well in his house.
Shah said while there has been 1,700 "encounters" all over India, only those which took place in Gujarat were now being investigated.
Raigar, who retired in 2007 and had investigated the Sohrabuddin fake encounter case, had a few days back denied that he was under any political pressure while he carried out the investigations. He said that investigating office VL Solanki never sought permission to interrogate Prajapati.
