Jaswant on the offensive, compares BJP to Ku Klux Klan

New Delhi: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has decided not to expel senior leader Arun Shourie and believes he had criticised the entire party and not individuals, sources tell CNN-IBN.

Sources say the BJP does not regard Shourie’s statements in a TV interview as deviation from party ideology--a charge made against senior leader Jaswant Singh when he was expelled from the party on Wednesday.

Shourie, in an interview to NDTV on Monday, called the BJP kati patang (a loose kite) and urged the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) to take charge of the party.

Shourie on Monday said BJP president Rajnath Singh was behaving like “Alice in Blunderland” and the BJP leadership “Humpty Dumpty”.

"In my view, the BJP is a kati patang. Unless it is got hold of swiftly by--I don't see people within the party who now have such authority. If anybody can do it, it is only the RSS ," he said.

Shourie blasted BJP President Rajnath Singh calling him Tarzan.

"Everyone was saying the party doesn't have strong leadership so he thought let me be Tarzan and show that I am in control," Shourie said.

The veteran journalist also called for the RSS to take over the BJP.

"Present day leadership has failed. I told the RSS that they must take charge of the party," he said

The party on Tuesday asked him to clarify his statements. "The party has called for a clarification from Arun Shourie. This is not not a show-cause notice. Nor has he been sent a notice seeking explanation. Only a clarification has been sought," BJP spokesman Prakash Javadekar said in New Delhi on Tuesday.
