New Delhi: Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Wednesday took oath in Delhi Assembly. The newly elected MLA's from the Aam Aadmi Party also took their oath in the Assembly. Kejriwal will seek a vote of confidence on the floor of the House on Thursday.
Meanwhile, he has said that audit order on electricity companies is expected on Wednesday. Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal had on Tuesday announced that the power tariff will be slashed by 50 per cent up to 400 units in Delhi. However, the tariffs will be brought down further after the Comptroller and Auditor General audit the discoms. The power distribution companies said that the CAG has no authority over private companies.
The first session of the Delhi Assembly began on Wednesday and will continue till January 7. The election of the Speaker and the Deputy Speaker will be held on January 3.
Lt Governor Najeeb Jung will address the House on January 6. On January 7, a discussion on Jung's address will take place. In the 70-member assembly, AAP has 28 MLAs, eight short of a majority. AAP has the support of 8 MLAs of Congress, which is expected to see across the half-way mark. BJP has 31
members and its ally Akali Dal 1.
AAP had named first-time MLA MS Dhir as its candidate for Speaker's post. Kejriwal said senior Congress MLA Mateen Ahmad will be the pro-tem speaker.
