Refusing to comment on the sedition case slapped against Jawaharlal Nehru University students over sloganeering, Union Minister Prakash Javadekar slammed Congress Vice President Rahul Gandhi for not condemning the anti-national slogans at the varsity.
"I'm happy that every party leader who spoke in Parliament on the incident barring the Congress Vice President condemned the anti-national slogans," he said in an interview to CNN-IBN.
He also added that people should not come to conclusions even before the investigating agencies complete their probe. "We in media, and we in politics should not become judges. Let courts deal with it. I have full faith in judiciary. Let investigating agencies do their work. I don't want to pre judge," he asserted.
He also claimed that the Narendra Modi government at the Centre is "fighting poverty, fighting separatists, fighting terrorists," and urged everybody to participate in the fight. "Our agenda is to take India ahead on the global platform," he added.
He also termed the Bharatiya Janata Party-led government as a responsive government for paying heed to the demands of people over the tax on Employee Provident Fund in the budget.
"Our amendments in EPF is a tribute to the fact that we are a responsive government. If there is a public perception that may be different than what you thought off while persuing that scheme and if you respond to the public sentiment, that's the best scheme. There are several other points in the budget including generation of jobs, sops for agriculture sector, other tax elements which should be focussed on apart from the EPF, those should be analaysed and taken into account as well. If there is difference of opinion on one point, that is the beauty of democracy. It is how a responsive government works," he claimed.
He also spoke about the Ishrat Jehan 'fake encounter' maintaining that the Congress tried to frame Modi and BJP chief Amit Shah in the case. "Ishrat Jahan was a terrorist and there was an encounter. Congress tried to fix Modi and Amit Shah. Sharad Pawar has written in his book that he prevented the Congress from arresting Modi in this case as there was insufficient evidence," he said.
With many important bills pending in Parliament, Javadekar hoped that the "House will function normally and bills will be passed."
