Vidhu Vinod Chopra’s film 12th Fail is about Manoj Kumar Sharma and Shraddha Sharma’s lives. Since it came out, their story has touched people all over India. In a recent interview with The Lallantop, Manoj talked about how the film affected his mom. He said when his mom was called on stage during a screening, she cried. She even kissed Vidhu Vinod Chopra’s hand and said it was great. Shraddha, who was also there, mentioned that Manoj always cries when he watches the movie. She said they both get emotional, but Manoj cries a lot.
“My mother cried. Vidhu ji called her on the stage and then he asked my mother to say something. I feel those were some of the best moments of my life when my mother took his hand and kissed it. And she said this was great,” Manoj Sharma recalled. Shraddha, who was with Manoj during the interview, mentioned that he gets emotional every time he watches the film. “Every time he sees the film, he cries. Both of us cry but he cries like a baby,” she said.
In the same chat, Manoj and Shraddha talked about their own love story. Manoj mentioned that in an earlier interview, he had said he supported love marriages. After that, many students asked him to help them get married because of his support for love marriages. “All of them said, you are a supporter so now get us married,” he shared, laughing.
Adapted from Anurag Pathak’s book and starring Vikrant Massey and Medha Shankar, 12th Fail narrates the life story of Manoj Kumar Sharma. Overcoming severe poverty, Sharma went on to achieve the rank of Indian Police Service officer. The film sheds light on his journey, highlighting the pivotal role played by his wife, IRS officer Shraddha Joshi, in his success.
Earlier this year, Vikrant Massey clinched the Best Actor (Critics) at an awards show, beating well-known actors for his role in 12th Fail, a film based on the life of IPS officer Manoj Kumar Sharma. The movie, released last year, received rave reviews, with Vikrant’s performance particularly praised.
Taking to social media to share a photo of himself posing with reel-life Manoj, Vikrant Massey, Manoj Sharma had written, “Jab ek Manoj dusre Manoj ko apni Filmfare trophy dikhaane laata hai, tab uss par aur bhi pyaar aata hai (When one Manoj brings his Filmfare trophy to show another Manoj, then the love for him increases).” Re-sharing the photo on his Instagram story, the actor referred to the IPS office as the “asli hero (real hero).”
