New Delhi: Six Congress MPs from Gujarat abstained during the voting on the Lokpal Bill and the Constitutional Status Bill to the Lokpal in the Lok Sabha on Tuesday night. Sources claim that one MP had a death in the family while the another had a wedding in the family. The other four MPs have been pulled up by Congress leadership.

Congress president Sonia Gandhi has sought the list of Congress MPs who were absent during voting on Constitution Amendment Bill on Lokpal in Lok Sabha on Tuesday, sources said.

Patan MP Jagdish Thakor's son-in-law had died while the daughter of Dinsha Patel, the MP from Kheda constituency in Gujarat, was getting married and sources say five Congress MPs had gone to attend the wedding.

A showcause notice will be issued to all the MPs who abstained during the debate and voting.

The Bill granting Constitutional status to the Lokpal was Congress General Secretary's brainchild and its defeat in the Lok Sabha is being seen as a huge setback for him.
