‘Peddled False Narrative’: BJP's Nishikant Dubey Lashes Out at Moitra For Storming Out of Ethics Panel Meet
Moitra appeared before the Lok Sabha Ethics Committee today in the alleged ‘cash-for-query’ case and later stormed out of the meeting, saying questions were "scripted and filthy"

BJP MP Nishikant Dubey, who accused Mahua Moitra of receiving “bribes” from businessman Darshan Hiranandani to ask questions in Parliament, said on Thursday that the Trinamool Congress MP tried to peddle a false narrative over the events that happened in the House’s ethics committee.

Moitra appeared before the Lok Sabha Ethics Committee today in the alleged ‘cash-for-query’ case and later stormed out of the meeting, saying questions were “scripted and filthy”.

“She tried to peddle a false narrative in the public. It is a black day in democracy… They are unable to digest that a person from Scheduled Caste, Vinod Sonkar, has become the Chairman of the Ethics Committee and they are making unnecessary statements against him…,” said Dubey who wrote a letter to Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla, where it has been alleged that Moitra received bribes from Hiranandani to target the Adani Group.

BJP MP Vinod Kumar Sonkar, who is the chairman of the Ethics Committee, said Moitra did not cooperate with the ethics committee and used bad words against him in anger. “Mahua Moitra did not cooperate. She used bad words against the chairman. She got angry and levelled some allegations against the ethics committee,” he said.

Dubey asked whether it was “personal” to ask if she talked to Hiranandani who allegedly gave her expensive gifts.

“You (Moitra) have travelled 14 times since you became MP. You travelled to many countries… The committee will ask you questions on this also… The evidence submitted by me, the ministries, and Hiranandani is 100 per cent correct. The ethics committee’s decision will set an example,” he said.

On Mahua’s allegations, the BJP MP from Jharkhand’s Godda said, “It’s not a filthy question… Your lifestyle will be questioned. Travel expenses are always considered as cash. Hiranandani’s affidavit talks about paying travel expenses… You can have a debate with me on this.”

Janata Dal (United) MP Giridhari Yadav, who was also present, said: “They asked personal questions to the Mahua Moitra. They do not have the right to ask personal questions, so we walked out.”

Congress MP Uttam Kumar Reddy also added: “The whole line of questions it seems that he’s (Parliament Ethics Committee Chairman) acting on somebody’s behest. It is very, very bad. For two days we have been asking him some things…They are asking her (Mahua Moitra) where are you travelling? Where are you meeting? Can you give us your phone records?… There is no evidence of any cash transfer…”
