KL Rahul slammed the fastest World Cup century by an Indian surpassing Rohit Sharma as he notched his hundred in just 62 balls against the Netherlands. Rahul broke multiple records en route to his splendid knock of 102 runs, helping India reach a massive total of 410/4 in fifty overs against the Dutch.
Rahul eclipsed his captain Rohit who was the previous fastest Indian batter to notch a hundred in World Cup history in just 63 balls against Afghanistan earlier last month.
Rohit won’t mind much as the Hitman elected to bat first and his decision proved to be spot on as all the Indian batters had a memorable outing in Bengaluru. Shubman Gill, Rohit, and Virat Kohli all slammed half-centuries, while Shreyas Iyer also hit his maiden World Cup hundred to go along with Rahul’s 7th ODI ton.
Rahul’s blistering fast century in 62 balls also saw him amass the most runs by an Indian wicketkeeper batter in a single edition of the World Cup.

After helping India to a mountain total, Rahul felt that the knock helped him get some confidence going ahead of a high-octane World Cup semifinal against New Zealand.
“Not gotten a lot of time (in the middle) in the last two games, so it was nice to get some time today. Batting at 5, it’s important to get that confidence, it was a good knock. Getting that confidence to hit sixes towards the end was important,” the 31-year-old told the broadcasters at the mid-innings interval.
“It’s not rocket science, got to go hard in the last 10 overs. Tried to get as many runs as possible, that was the plan, the ball gets softer, so hitting sixes at the back end becomes difficult. It’s just not this game, everyone has a clear game plan, we have been executing it (our plans) pretty well. Need to win this game and look forward to the semis,” he added.
